The latest data analyzed by the ADA Health Policy Institute indicate that general practitioner (GP) dentists’ inflation-adjusted incomes were unchanged in 2025 and have been decreasing over the past 15 years.

The average income for GP dentists was $215,320 in 2025. Dentist inflation-adjusted earnings have been decreasing due to an ongoing "fiscal squeeze" brought on by dental practice expenses growing faster than reimbursement. Revenues went up 1.4% while expenses went up 4.9% over a five-year period.
